Every September, the Regattas Flag La Concha transforms San Sebastián into the stage of one of Spain’s most celebrated rowing competitions. Steeped in tradition and regional pride, the event attracts thousands of spectators to the Basque coastline. Within ENACT (Horizon Europe`s project), this iconic race is entering a new era of innovation, offering audiences an immersive and interactive way to experience the regatta.
Within Use Case 2 – Production and distribution of media content for cultural heritage and tourism sectors, ARCTUR is developing a 3D application that recreates the San Sebastián coastline as a virtual environment. Using real-time GPS data, the system tracks and visualizes the exact positions and movements of the boats. An interactive interface enriches the experience with live race statistics such as speed, distance, and ranking, alongside camera streams provided by EITB and social media inputs from Osoigo.
Spectators will be able to customize their viewing perspectives, switching between angles and data layers for a uniquely engaging experience. By combining audiovisual streaming, geolocation, and interactive features within ENACT’s cloud–edge continuum infrastructure, the pilot demonstrates how cutting-edge technology can reduce latency, boost interactivity, and bring fans closer than ever to the action.
This collaboration between ARCTUR, EITB, and Osoigo illustrates how ENACT’s architecture can reshape live broadcasting—not only for major sporting events, but also for cultural heritage and tourism experiences across Europe.
