The 'Art Beyond the Visible' exhibition in Nova Gorica will demonstrate Slovenia's commitment to accessibility. Started in June 2023 by the regional museum Goriški muzej together with the Nova Gorica Intermunicipal Society of the Blind and Visually Impaired, it will offer tactile art experiences not only for blind and visually impaired visitors but for everyone else, too. It is also part of the official program of the European Capital of Culture 2025.
The exhibition's first part will showcase tactile reproductions of historical and artistic works, created in collaboration with institutions like the Omero Museum in Ancona and local contributors. Highlights include reliefs of Slovenian Impressionists and iconic landmarks such as the Solkan Bridge. In the second part, 17 artists from Slovenia, Italy, and Croatia co-created accessible artworks considering user input. Special workshops encouraged artists to adapt their processes for tactile engagement, blending inclusivity with creativity.
Educational programs developed with universities in Slovenia and the U.S. enrich the project, while audiovisual elements ensure accessibility through subtitles, sign language, and audio descriptions.
Housed in a fully accessible space, 'Art Beyond the Visible' showcases the impact of participatory and international efforts in making cultural heritage inclusive for all.
