The tourism sector, inherently human-centric, is constantly evolving with new technologies and innovations. In Slovenia's Green Karst destination, the SEISMEC pilot aims to address key challenges in communication and data management among diverse tourism providers.
The SEISMEC pilot will implement advanced technologies to establish an internal communication system and organize workshops for tourism service providers. These workshops will enhance productivity and synchronization within the tourism sector. Additionally, a system of footfall sensors will be set up to gather data on tourism flows (visit on mountain trails), visits at tourist information centres, attractions, and other relevant metrics. This data will empower tourism managers to make informed decisions for future planning.
Key Initiatives:
- Installation of footfall sensors and other measuring devices in natural areas (mainly trails, and points of interest – mount Nanos and Snežnik, Planina Cave, Rakov Škocjan …).
- Integration of ticket sales data from attractions like Park vojaške zgodovine and Notranjski muzej Postojna.
- Collaboration with six local Tourist Information Centres (TICs) for data sharing.
- Inclusion of open data such as traffic data, weather data, trails into the FLOWS Dashboard.
- Data storage, cleaning, and visualization.
The project SEISMEC demonstrates the concept of human-centricity across a wide array of industry sectors, scales and sociotechnical contexts in the EU. By effectively empowering workers in the co-design and co-development of new technologies, we facilitate the journey towards a skills-driven and creativity-infused industrial landscape; one that is built around high-quality, sustainable jobs, and prioritises overall worker security and satisfaction.
