With the rise of AI, the media industry faces both opportunities and urgent challenges. While new technologies enable creativity and efficiency, they also underline the need for better data management, trust, and cooperation. Media organisations must join forces to adopt data-driven processes and solutions that can restore competitiveness and open new growth paths.
This is the ambition of TEMS – Trusted European Media Data Space, co-financed by the Digital Europe Programme. A large consortium of TEMS unites 42 organisations from 12 countries, including broadcasters, publishers, news agencies, archives, technology providers, and innovation clusters - among them also ARCTUR from Slovenia. Together, we are developing a secure and interoperable environment for media data sharing, based on common rules and governance, ensuring collaboration across the cultural and creative sectors.
The mission of TEMS is to:
- Build a trusted framework for sharing and reusing data.
- Enable new data-driven business models for media organisations.
- Support regional and local media ecosystems across Europe.
- Create cross-sector opportunities, linking media with tourism, creative industries, and other industries.
Trials – Innovation in Practice
Until 2026, TEMS will roll out eight large-scale trials that put these principles into action, exploring themes such as fact-checked news exchange, user data, personalised advertising, content syndication, and new distribution formats.
Two trials are currently in focus:
- Trial 7 – Syndication Platform for Written Works
Involving Panodyssey and partners, this trial develops a syndication platform for written content through interoperable connectors and standardised data exchange. The goal is to strengthen the competitiveness of media and cultural publishers. AI enhances intellectual property value while promoting transparency and ethics in the digital publishing sector. - Trial 8 – Market and Co-Creation Platform for 3D Virtual Production
A collaboration between VRT, ARCTUR, and Sound Holding, this trial is building a European hub for 3D environments. It will enable discovery, collaboration, and reuse of diverse 3D data types for virtual production. AI is used to optimise search, discovery, and co-creation processes, supporting the development of innovative and immersive media formats.
By combining a robust governance framework with hands-on innovation trials, TEMS is paving the way for a stronger, more competitive, and future-ready European media industry.
