A half-day workshop titled “Innovating Tourism” was recently held as part of the Interreg BEST project, bringing together representatives from tourism SMEs to explore opportunities for innovation, digitalisation, and sustainable development in the tourism industry. The event attracted 20 participants and featured six speakers from five organisations.
During the programme, a dedicated one-hour session focused on the role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in enhancing tourism services and experiences. The session included three thematic presentations.
The first presentation highlighted inspiring digitalisation practices in the field of cultural heritage, showcasing how modern digital tools can revitalise heritage content and contribute to more engaging and contemporary tourist experiences.
The second presentation introduced practical AI tools developed within the AI4VET4AI initiative, demonstrating their potential to support process optimisation, content creation, and improved communication within tourism SMEs. The session emphasised the growing relevance of artificial intelligence in day-to-day business operations across the tourism sector.
Additionally, information was provided on the PHOENIX 4.0 initiative, including upcoming call and training opportunities aimed at supporting digital transformation, the adoption of advanced technologies, and sustainability-driven innovation in Slovenian tourism enterprises.
The workshop was successfully implemented and offered participants valuable insights into emerging digital solutions, inspiring examples of good practice, and funding opportunities that can support the modernisation of the tourism industry. The event further strengthened cooperation among organisations working toward a more innovative, competitive, and sustainable tourism ecosystem.
