Virtual workshop Black Sea projects on coastal and maritime tourism, maritime transports, fishery and aquaculture, digitalisation. Gaps and opportunities - was organised by ICBSS – BSEC – DG Mare took place on 2 October 2020. The aim of the workshop was to collect data and exchange best practices from the regional projects in the Black Sea and other sea basins on coastal and maritime tourism, maritime transports, fishery and aquaculture, and digitalisation.
In the session on Digitalisation Mamuka Berdzenishvili from Tourism Institute presented T4BS project with innovative co-creating and technology bringing into tourism data-driven strategic thinking. The use of tools like Tourism Impact Model, big data analysis and digitalisation provide governments (on any level) with strategic tools for competent and quick response by replacing traditional statistical methods to get insight to what is happening at a location at a precise moment. Tourism sector is very dynamic sector and it should be supported with data and modern tools to facilitate strategic data-driven decisions.
The workshop demonstrated that big data can provide a huge support for the sustainability of tourism (and any other sector) with identification of common orientation and possible solutions for the crisis response, the importance of new technologies and digitalisation, and the use of data for strategic decision making.
